On this one-day itinerary, you will visit one of the most beautiful natural sites on the outskirts of Lisbon, the Serra da Arrábida, with its breathtaking views of the Atlantic coast. Heading south, the trip begins with a visit to the Cristo Rei viewpoint on the south bank of the Tagus to admire the magnificent panorama of the coastline from Lisbon to Cascais. On the way to the Arrábida Natural Park, it is worth visiting the medieval castle of Palmela, to enjoy the wide views over the Alentejo plain, the immensity of the waters of Setúbal bay, and the many historical remains of the place. From here it is on to Sesimbra via the top of the Serra da Arrábida to enjoy its breathtaking views. In Sesimbra, an important fishing port and summer resort with beautiful beaches and a medieval castle, you can enjoy a typical fish meal. The trip ends with a visit to the promontory of Cabo Espichel, where an old legend gave origin to a place of faith and pilgrimage. In this remote and isolated spot a huge sanctuary was built in the 18th century with a church, lodgings, an aqueduct and even... an opera house. Dinosaur footprints can be seen nearby. |
