The north of Lisbon has plenty of reasons to visit. The coastline is home to beautiful beaches and magnificent cliffs that develop in whimsical shapes along the coast. Here and there, important fishing centers sprout up between the sands and the cliffs. Some places have attracted vacationers looking for the sea, the beach and the waves, giving rise to tourist and surfing hubs. The interior is predominantly rural with diverse cultures where the landscape of vineyards predominates. In addition to being a peaceful region, it has beautiful landscapes, many hills and vast historical remains, including the numerous fortifications that defended Lisbon from the Napoleonic invasions between 1809 and 1811.
