DESCRIPTION
Come and visit the Monastery of Alcobaça, which is considered to be the first Gothic building in Portugal, whose construction was started in 1178 by the first Portuguese King, Dom Afonso Henriques, to celebrate his victory over the Moors at Santarém in March 1147. In 1997 the monument was classified a World Heritage by UNESCO.
During this visit to Alcobaça learn more about the founding of the Kingdom of Portugal and the role of the religious orders in the consolidation of the Christian re-conquest .
In our trip to the north of Lisbon we visit the village of Nazaré and the mythical Lugar do Sítio, where we learn about the old legend of Our Lady of Nazaré, also invoquing the early times of the country foundation.
Close to this place is located the famous Surf Spot of Nazaré in the North Beach (Praia do Norte).
In a local restaurant you have the opportunity to taste a lunch of fish or seafood.
On the way back to Lisbon we stop off at the medieval village of Óbidos, where you taste the local ‘ginjinha’ liqueur in a chocolate cup.
